Running Improvement Program

  
Our Running Improvement Program helps you become a much better runner and will have a positive impact across a full range of events and distances. We'll work with you and critique you while you run, so you know exactly what you are doing wrong and what corrections need to be made.  We'll help you customize and implement your training program...whether you're training for a 5K or a marathon.

Our goal is to develop better runners through practical experience and supervised instruction.  We'll provide expert advice on:

  • Form during running - form drills, up hill, down hill, flat
  • Injury prevention and treatment - shin splints, runner's knee and over-use injuries; stretching
  • Sprinting and distance running - breathing, foot strike, arm swing, body position
  • Nutrition - what to eat before and after a workout, types of foods, long-run fuels vs short-run fuels
  • Safety - Rules of the road/trail, route selection, traffic patterns
  • Shoes, clothing and gadgets - gear selection, fit, heart rate monitors, reflective materials
  • Training Routines - Fartleks, interval training, pacing, negatives, hills/bleachers

Requirements: Must be high school age or older and be able to run a 12 minute mile pace for 3 miles.

Location/Time:  Classes are forming now.  New classes will begin at various dates throughout the year and will be held on Saturday or Sunday for 4 consecutive weeks with some optional classes on weekdays.  Each class will average 90 minutes in duration.

The Custom Fitness Concepts Running Improvement Program is supervised by running expert Peter Sherry, winner of the 2003 Marine Corps Marathon. Mr.Sherry runs professionally for Nike and is co-owner of GottaRun Running Shoes.
